Acomplia
rimonabant
Acomplia (rimonabant) is an anti-obesity drug. It helps you to deal with the problems of obesity and smoking at once.
Acomplia acts by selectively blocking CB1 receptors found in the brain and in peripheral organs important in glucose and lipid (or fat) metabolism, including adipose tissue, the liver, gastrointestinal tract and muscle. Blocked CB1 receptor decrease the over activity of the endocannabinoid system (EC system) which has been shown to play an important role in regulating body weight and in controlling energy balance, as well as glucose and lipid (or fat) metabolism.
Acomplia is used complementary to diet and exercise to treat obese or overweight patients who suffer from Type 2 diabetes and abnormal levels of fat in the blood. Acomplia can also prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Patients with large waist circumference (102 cm in men and 88 cm in women) will mostly benefit from taking this drug.
Clinical trials have produced evidence of significant weight loss and a visible reduction in the size of the waist. More interestingly, the lipid concentrations (the levels of the different types of cholesterol measured by the standard enzymatic procedures), insulin and glucose profiles as against the measure total body fat (TBF) have showed beneficial improvement with only mild side-effects.
Those who start to take Acomplia realize almost immediately how quickly they can begin to lose weight and how the nicotine withdrawal symptoms can be managed more easily when trying to stop smoking. In both clinical trials and everyday experience, Acomplia have proved effective as a diet pill to fight against obesity and as an anti-smoking pill to help you kick the habit. This will relieve many overweight smokers who have been afraid to give up because they fear putting on those extra pounds. Younger women who have picked up the smoking habit probably worry about this the most. With Acomplia, you can solve both problems at the same time!
Like all medicines Acomplia can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects that affect more than 10% of patients include nausea. Other less common side effects include upset stomach, vomiting, sleeping disorders, nervousness and depression, dizziness, diarrhea, itching, excessive sweating, muscle cramps, fatigue, bruising, tendonitis, back pain, hot flush, influenza and joint sprain.
Acomplia is a prescription medicine, only indicated for use in certain patients, depending on their body mass index and the presence of cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors. You should seek advice from your doctor. He or she will appraise your personal condition and will decide if you are eligible for treatment with Acomplia.
